Who may enter?

The Global Ebook Awards are open to authors, publishers, illustrators and photographers.

What is eligible?

  • Ebooks from authors, publishers,  illustrators, photographers, self-published or traditionally published, regardless of company size. The Global Ebook Awards are given to the best of the best, not the best of some special group.
  • Ebooks in the English language from any country.
  • Ebooks copyrighted or released (offered on a website) in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Revised editions, with a more recent release date, are eligible. Revised editions are considered by the publishing industry to be new ebooks (they usually have new ISBNs); they may be entered again in following years.
  • Ebooks fitting into one of the categories listed.

Dates

  • Accepting entries: Now.
  • Eligibility cut off: ebooks published and available online for free or purchase before April 29, 2013
  • Finalists (all) announced July 20, 2013

Application deadline: April 30, 2013 (midnight Pacific Time).

Judging

Ebooks are evaluated as objectively as possible with scores on several items. Judging panels will consider cover design, content quality, layout when not straight text, originality, etc. Judges are industry professionals with experience in ebooks and in the category they evaluate. Decisions of the judges are final.

In addition to unique awards, digital “sticker” files will be given to Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention Winners to apply to their ebook covers and promotional materials.

  1. Thank you, Dan, for this wonderful opportunity to be recognized and potentially, promoted. I've been a fan of yours for years and am grateful for the significant help your Self-Publishing Manuals and Publishing Poynters newsletter has provided me. I've read many eBooks on self-publishing and far too many of them paint rosy pictures. Yours manage to be pragmatic yet simultaneously inspirational. Many thanks!

  2. I didn’t see Romance in the Fiction category and just want to inquire if I can still submit my Romance novel.

    Thanks!

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

We didn’t include it on the page listing the categories, but it’s there now. There are already 8 books listed in that category. Please join them!

  3. Delilah says:

My novel was originally published on Kindle but will soon be in paperback. Would it still qualify? Thanks

  4. Mary Deal says:

What happens when a person is unsure about which category to apply and then, perhaps, gets it wrong. Case in point, my book on writing tips has always been called a reference book, but you also have the category of Writing/Publishing. Do you automatically put an entry in the right category where YOU believe it fits? Thank you.

  5. How many winners and finalists will there be per category?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

There is only one winner per category and the number of finalist can be a bunch or a few depending on how many the judges want to declare as finalists.

  6. sklopfer says:

Dan: What a great opportunity! (REmember back when with Internet With Fred and Susan?) These are exciting times for eBooks and I am so happy to have the opportunity to show mine off. So thanks and take care. Susan Klopfer

  7. Hi all, thanks for the opportunity and exposure. Is there any chance of adding a Psychological Fiction category?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

Hi Silvano, We will seriously consider any category where there are people who review that category. If no one is reviewing that type of ebook, then we will probably not add more than the 80 categories we already have.

  8. kathy tooman says:

I have two books that will now hit the deadline. I do not have ISBN number yet. Can I still enter them?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

If they are for sale online right now, you can enter them. You must provide the page where they are for sale. Please see the instructions for more details.

  9. Karen Cioffi says:

    Hi,

I just got the email for the 2012 Awards. I noticed the e-book has to be uploaded to Smashwords and the judges will use the review copy capability.

Will this pose a problem for authors who are selling their e-books? Is anyone able to download the e-books for review?

    Thanks,
    Karen

  10. Karen Cioffi says:

    Hi, again,

    I have two more questions:

Can an e-book that was submitted and nominated last year, but didn’t win, be resubmitted if it’s been revised?

Is an e-book that’s between 30 and 40 pages eligible?

    Thanks,
    Karen Cioffi-Ventrice

  11. Bob Kline says:

We’re excited about entering Wholeness in Living: Kindling the Inner Light as an ebook in your competition! Signe at Firebird Media Management is putting the finishing touches on it ‘as we speak’ so all we have to do is finalize it, make it available for sale and our entry will be sent to you!

  12. fins says:

Hi ! i’m excited about the possibility of entering !! Would a Fishing Phenomena, Techniques and Tips book fit into any of the categories ?

  13. My new Medical Thriller will be released soon and noticed there is no specific category for this genre. Should I consider the “Suspense/Thriller” category? Several reviewers are now referring to this novel as “Literary Fiction”. Any such category as well? Thanks!

    • DanPoynter says:

You can submit your book in the suspense/thriller category. In the past if we received a lot of books in the same category we would split them out into sub categories. If we end up getting quite a few medical thrillers we can create a new sub category for these books.

  14. Hi!
Does the category ‘historical literature fiction’ have room for romance too? My story is Regency espionage with romance and I’m teetering…

Thank you for a push in the right direction.

    • DanPoynter says:

We have decided to split up the Romance category, so it will be Romance – Contemporary and Romance – Historical. These new categories should be up in a day or two.

  15. R.A. Lee says:

    Hi,

Do you have a category for “first ebook – fiction.”

  16. Anita Shaw says:

Entries released prior to April 29th this year — is there a cut off for how far back that is?Most of my ebooks have been out a while — 2008.

Also, I self pub in PDF and .PRC. I’d be happy to send both versions if my work is still eligible.

    • Becky says:

No, there is not cut off for how far bak they can go they just have to be released by 4/29/12. Yes, please email both the PDF and .PRC versions, that would be great!

      • Adam Santo says:

I’m a little confused, Becky. Above section about eligibility says, “Ebooks copyrighted or released (offered on a website) in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Revised editions, with a more recent release date, are eligible. Revised editions are considered by the publishing industry to be new ebooks (they usually have new ISBNs); they may be entered again in following years.” Was that a misprint or a rule change? Thanks for clearing this up.

        • Becky says:

The reference to revised editions was just clarification. There was no rule change and it is not a misprint. As long as the ebook has a copyright date in 2011, 2012 and 2013 it is eligible. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  17. I published my Photography book on iBooks using, iBooks Author, would My book be eligible for this great opportunity?
